Ahrea Campaign 5: Revenge Of The Black Reign

Temple of Krios

Current progress. Session yet to be played/recorded.

Session 13: The Northeastern Marshlands

Fiva tends to Aras’ bedside overnight, the Green Swordsman having been saved by several White Helm medics.
Yardic and Adgar speak with Zanthros about his defection to the Crown. It is apparent that Zanthros is doomed to die a traitors death if the Legion captures him, but states he wishes to atone for past atrocities committed by the Legion without his knowledge.
Selea tends to K’Rena, who was near mortally wounded during the assault. It is unknown whether she will live through the night.
Ryhar tends to her side overnight, feeling at odds for caring for her, but realizes that her “lover” is not and will not be around for her.
The next day Aras, Yardic, Jarrad, and Zos chat philosophy with Zanthros, and battle plans. Zanthros mainly intends for his unit to die in glorious battle due to the nature of their defection.
Aras goes to see K’Rena while she is on bedrest, but she is silent towards him for not having seen her earlier.
In the night, Aras catches Ryhar sneaking into K’Rena’s tent while intending to be at her bedside. The two get into a very heated argument, and Ryhar ends up stating he wished he had never met Aras due to how he ruins other people’s lives after a fisticuff between the two is broken up by Selea. As Ryhar storms off.
K’Rena, still badly wounded and warned not to injure or exhaust herself more, opens the tent in order to shake her head at Aras and wander after Ryhar after seeing Fiva holding onto the Green Swordsman after the fist fight. Aras feels conflicted about the whole ordeal. K’Rena finds Ryhar in the middle of the woods and cries herself out on his shoulder, knowing that the Green Swordsman does not have the feelings for her she wished he did. Ryhar stays up the night for her, making sure she does not succumb to her injuries.
Aras and Fiva return to the general mess hall in order to drink with Zos and the others, and ultimately Aras gets into another fistfight with several Crown troopers after accusations of him leading the majority of the assault force into a suicidal charge. Aras is beaten severely during the fight.
Alahar breaks up the fight, and informs Aras and Yardic of his prerogative to take command of the Company of the Lighted Way, in light of the actions of the Green Swordsman as of late. Aras takes to the news bitterly, but is too wounded to attempt to fist fight Alahar.
Too drunk and beaten up to make much sense, Aras passes out in the middle of the Fort Breas grounds. Fiva drags him to their tent and watches over him during the night, becoming concerned with how violently he has been acting.
The next morning sees Zanthros giving the Company of the Lighted Way many gifts, and the parties plan on departing for their separate paths. Arala gives Aras a +1 Longsword as a parting gift as she and her remaining cavalry return to Piar’Das. Zanthros intends to take his White Helms north to open a path for the 2nd Company of the 35th Division and the Company of the Lighted Way to traverse to the marshlands.
Fiva visits K’Rena on her last day of bedrest, and thanks the dark elf for assisting in finding Aras. K’Rena is not pleased at all, and holds one of her daggers under her back until Fiva leaves.

As the party leaves Fort Breas, they are witness to a large red dragon being chased by several allied Crown drake riders – all of which are heading to the North East.
K’Rena, Fiva, and Ryhar are sent out multiple times to scout out the unknown terrain. K’Rena nearly works up the courage to “accidentally” shoot Fiva in the back as revenge for what the dark elf sees as meddling in her life, but holds off against it knowing how Aras would react to the wood elf’s death.
Ryhar and K’Rena bond closer during these scouting trips, and now share the same horse. Fiva is somewhat concerned, but doesn’t mind the matter any attention.
Zanthros’ push north has succeeded, and the Company of the Lighted Way makes it up to the marshlands without much further incident.

In a open town, the party comes across it after what the locals describe as a dragon attack, finding it nearly burned to ground as the rest of the 35th Division evacuate the survivors further up north. Upon further questioning they state it was the red dragon Fia’Pas that had destroyed the town – better known as the 1st son of Dasanar, the 1st dragon created, and the 1st red dragon created. Alahar and Selea are very uncomfortable upon hearing this information due to their time in the Kingdom of Tel’Na some two years previous, though realize they must press on.
It is confirmed that the temple of Krios is within the marshlands ahead, and the party continues ahead without Adgar and Gorg, who stay behind to oversee the evacuation efforts. It is stated that dragons are breeding in the temple, and as such several Crown troopers are sent with the company to exterminate the hatchlings.
Aya becomes noticeably morose as she approaches her favored god’s temple, and has several angry exchanges with Alahar.
The party moves through the swampland with a few Crown trooper volunteers, but are ambushed by a large number of green and black dragon hatchlings.
The party fights off a large black dragon, and a large green dragon, though they notice that a third much larger dragon escaped under the water towards the temple of Krios.
The party gives chase, and stands before the Temple of Krios. Aya prays for her god to survive through the coming day, and enters the temple with the rest of her companions.

Session 12: The Assault On Fort Breas

The Company of the Lighted Way and Arala’s Cavalry charge upon the road to Fort Breas, Aras and Yardic leading the charge. They eliminate 7 advance patrols of Field Commander Krendall’s forces as they approach the Fortress.
One Legion survivor of the attacks is able to escape the Company and returns to Fort Breas to inform Krendall of the attacks, and is able to confirm that the Company did not agree to the terms of surrender sent to them three days previously.
Field Commander Krendall immediately commands his division to fall back and defend Fort Breas, fully expecting that his forces will devastate the incoming advance of Crown troops.
Fiva is extremely anxious over the ongoing events, though Field Commander Zanthros assures her that Aras will survive the assault he’s launching on Fort Breas.

Aras’ attacks on the Legion troops his party come across have become increasing brutal, and Selea is starting to question his mental state as it seems to her he has become unstable. He has not slept since Fiva was captured days before.
K’Rena is finding it much harder to spend time with her arranged husband, and as such finds herself spending time with Ryhar.
Others in the company are beginning to question Yardic’s tactics as well, as they know full well they are charging a fortress with a full division of the Legion’s troops with less then 200 men.
Aras launches another attack upon seeing a full company upon a nearby hill, assuming they are Legion troops. When it is discovered they are allied Crown troops, Alahar and others begin to question the sanity of their ally as he nearly began attacking them.
The 2nd Company of the Crown’s 35th Division pledge their support to the assault on Fort Breas, having been separated from the rest of the 35th Division as they are caught to the south of the Fortress and have been flanked on all sides. They number 165 men.
Yardic is praised for his surprise tactic of enlisting another company into the forces charging Fort Breas, but Alahar sees that this was just a lucky occurrence and questions Yardic on his leadership capabilities.
The party and it’s allies take refuge 1 day away from Fort Breas, managing to avoid detection from Legion scouts. They send K’Rena to scout the defenses of the fort. As Aras is too unsteady to do so, Ryhar is unwilling to let her go alone and accompanies her to scout the fort.
Though they are nearly detected by Legion troops, Ryhar and K’Rena manage to successfully determine the enemy’s strengths and weaknesses at Fort Breas, and return back to the party. They bond further during this time, as K’Rena informs Ryhar of her feelings that Aras does not care for her anymore.
Despite many allies expressing their concern that an attack led by Aras and Yardic will fail due to Aras’ mental state, the Company sets and prepares to attack the fortress the next morning. Aras and Yardic will charge the southern entrance of the fortress, while Alahar and Adgar charge the western entrance to block the enemy into their own fort.

The attack on Fort Breas begins in the morning. Zanthros invites Fiva to watch the attack, as it was apparent that the Company was planning to do so thanks to the botched scouting K’Rena and Ryhar attempted. Fiva is overly anxious.
Aras and Yardic lead the charge into the southern defenses of Fort Breas, losing a good number of the men following them into the Fort due to ballista defenses. Regardless, the two open a breach and begin planting explosives on several structures in the fort. Aya begins setting fire to them. Field Commander Krendall is taken by complete surprise by the charge at the southern wall, fully expecting his opponents to realize that it was a suicide mission to attempt to breach Fort Breas in that manner.
Alahar and his group charge the western entrance, and come across little resistance. Unfortunately the Legion realized this was the most likely point of attack and had rigged the buildings to explode in order to starve off the enemy advance. Alahar, Selea, Adgar, K’Rena, and Ryhar are caught up in the explosion but survive – though the majority of those following behind them did not.
The party soon realizes the grave error of their assault – with the 2nd Company stuck and unable to advance on the western side due to the fire wall created by the set explosions, they must charge the southern wall in order to breach the Fort. Many are lost as they are shot down by Legion bowmen protecting the southern walls from further invaders.
Aras continues the charge into the fortress, with his remaining allies following behind.
Field Commander Krendall frees Norman from his imprisonment and sets him loose on Aras, expecting the Bounty Hunter to deal with the problem to the south.
Fiva is now very much concerned, and manages to catch Zanthros by surprise as she prepares to backstab him for what she perceives as a betrayal. Zanthros attempts to calm her by informing her to watch the field closer. She is able to see men with white helms much like Jarrad’s starting to follow behind normal Legion units, and is told that they will strike down the remaining Legion units if the Company of the Lighted Way continues inflicting casualties in order to prevent losses for his White Helms.

Selea tends to a wounded Adgar as both breaching parties meet in the center of the Fortress grounds. No one has been able to find Fiva, and Aras determines they must press further north in order to capture the command building. As they attempt to do so, however, Aras is shot in the leg by a crossbow bolt and is left to bleed out in the open.
It is determined Norman fired this shot, and is holed up with several Legion volunteers to break up the assault. The party is caught in a intense crossfire, and efforts to retrieve Aras from the open field fail as it becomes to dangerous to reach his location.
Ryhar makes an attempt to rescue Aras from his predicament, and is shot in the forearm along the way. However, he is able to drag Aras behind a water trough for horses in order to be under cover from the enemy fire.
K’Rena launches a surprise rout of the enemy, intending to capture Norman’s hold by herself and allow the others to continue. She kills all but two of his volunteers in the ambush, but is shot several times in the back herself by Norman.
Norman brags of his accomplishment of killing K’Rena to Aras and Ryhar in the field, and despite pleas for him to not move Aras becomes enraged and charges the position. He is shot down near instantly by Norman, having taken a shot to the stomach.
Seeing that the assault has stalled and will fail if action does not happen immediately, Alahar forces Yardic to take command of the allied troops as he stands in the open to provide a distraction.
The remaining members of the Company of the Lighted Way and their allies charge Norman’s hold from multiple directions, killing the man’s volunteers and forcing him into the open.
Despite being gravely wounded, Aras forces himself back up in order to duel off against Norman. During a pitched swordfight the two draw their crossbows but lose them in the fight. As they stand over the other’s weapon, the two agree to settle the duel by trading crossbows and allowing the quicker drawman to win. As Norman kicks Aras’ crossbow back to him, Aras keeps Norman’s crossbow underfoot in order to shoot him while the man is unarmed.
Though Yardic and Alahar have taken command of the assault from Aras, they find that they are trapped in by an encircling battalion of Legion troops. They manage to rescue K’Rena before being informed to surrender.
Field Commander Krendall personally comes upon the field in order to inform Aras to surrender, who was previously intending to kill Norman as the man laid mortally wounded.
Upon noticing that the rest of his allies have agreed to the terms of surrender, Aras breaks Alahar’s orders to surrender in order to continue fighting. Krendall makes it very clear this will mean the death of everyone he fought with, though Aras draws his sword and prepares to charge Krendall.
Seeing his opportunity to overturn the Legion, Zanthros orders his White Helms to attack. Their attack decimates the Legion troops that had their backs to them, and causes enough confusion that the Legion is unsure whether to deal with the Crown troops in front of them or the White Helms at their backs.
Fiva manages to retrieve her longbow in order to kill Field Commander Krendall, hitting him with a well aimed arrow to the back.
The White Helms manage to utterly wipe of the remaining elements of Krendall’s division, and begin assisting the Crown troops with their wounded.

Seeing the battle is over, Zanthros lives up to his word and lets Fiva free from captivity.
Aras sees Fiva approaching him in a white dress, and is overjoyed to see her. Unfortunately, it appears that he suffered mortal wounds during the fight, and falls unconscious in her arms.

Session 11 The Road To Fort Breas

The remaining members of the Company and Arala’s cavalry come across the forward base of the Legion of Vas in the region after two days of travel. Aya, Zos, Yardic, Adgar all notice that Aras hasn’t slept at all since the others were captured by the Legion Vanguard.
Ryhar is awake in order to watch Fiva being taken out of the jail they are currently in to an unknown location, nearly strangles a guard in his frustration before being knocked unconscious.
K’Rena and Ryhar are left in same cell, and the two bond closer then previously due to their shared experience.
Aras and the other members of the Company charge upon the forward base of the Legion. Arala’s cavalry fight against the oncoming troopers, but sustain heavy losses themselves.
In the confusion, Ryhar succeeds in strangling one of the jail guards in order to retrieve the jail key, unlocks himself and the others and they retrieve their gear.
Aras personally charges into the base despite the others warning him as he searches for Fiva, nearly getting himself killed due to his fatigued state.
Ryhar and the others attempt to escape the jail, but are held in place by remaining Legion forces.
Aras manages to fight his way to the jail and distracts the Legion’s troops, allowing the others to escape.
Aya, Zos, Yardic, and Jarrad rescue the captured members of the party, though they are able to determine that another company’s worth of men have escaped further north. Aya determines that this group have Fiva in their possession.
Aras is badly wounded in the stomach fighting the Legionaries on horseback, and slaughters the few Legion stragglers in a blind rage after not being able to find Fiva.
Selea is able to heal Aras, but it is apparent that he has gone somewhat unstable. He does not pay any attention to K’Rena, as well.

Fiva wakes up in a prison cell, finds that all of her equipment has been confiscated.
Norman manages to enter the prison block without authorization, knocking out the two guards stationed to it in order to capture her for himself.
Fiva warns him that she’ll kill him, he laughs but is soon caught off guard as she starts strangling him through the cell bars. As he opens the cell, she disarms him and prepares to kill him before Field Commander Zanthros appears.
Zanthros holds Fiva at bay with a force spell in order to prevent her from killing Norman, though he permanently scars Norman across the face for his insubordination before having the bounty hunter imprisoned.
Fiva is unsure what to make of the ordeal, but Zanthros provides her with a white dress and gives her comfortable lodgings before inviting her to a dinner.
Assuming that Zanthros intends to make her a servant, Fiva is surprised to find out that Zanthros plans to defect from the Legion with a company of trusted troops.
However, the planned defection requires the destruction of Field Commander Krendall’s Division of Legion troops in Fort Breas, where the two are currently at. Zanthros is unable to do this with just himself and his one company, and as such is using Aras and the Company of the Lighted Way as a distraction in order to turn and destroy Krendall’s division. Due to the fact it is a suicide mission on Aras’ part of the plan, Fiva is very not pleased to hear about this.

Two days pass as Aras is slowly recovering from his wounds he received from the attack on the forward base, and it is apparent he is somewhat losing his mind as he cannot focus on anything other than finding Fiva.
K’Rena begins spending more time with Ryhar, having always enjoyed it and finding comfort with him as Aras appears to be losing his mind.
A messenger from Field Commander Krendall locates the Company and Arala’s company, informing them of Fiva’s fate and the request for the entire company to surrender. Aya would be spared though sent to Lord Vanatos personally, Selea and Alahar would also be spared – the rest would all be killed as public enemies of the Legion. If this request is met, Fiva would be spared and set free.
Unable to accept these demands, Aras sends off the messenger. As the messenger rides off in peace, Aras shoots him in the back with his crossbow.
Alahar is enraged as this action will cause the full retaliation of Krendall’s division, though Aras doesn’t care and pushes Alahar aside as he begins to ride off towards Fort Breas.
Selea attempts to warn him not to continue further due to his wounds, but Aras disregards her and K’Rena. As the others watch on, Yardic speaks with Aras and determines he will ride with the Green Swordsman as he’s already assumed that this will be a final charge towards the enemy. (The Company and the Cavalry number only around 70, though the Legion has about 1000 troopers.)
Aras rides off with Yardic, and with the odds as they are, the party follows behind to face whatever waits upon reaching Fort Breas.

Session 10: Black Legion Encampment and the Capture of Fiva

Party raids a Black Legion encampment.
Norman ambushes Fiva and K’Rena
Aya destroys camp.
Explosives are set off by Aya’s magic, everyone almost killed.
Norman personally captures Fiva while she lies unconscious from the blast, Legion catches a majority of the other members of the Company. Norman mistakes Aras for being dead and leaves the unconscious Green Swordsman lay on the ground.
Aras, Zos, Jarrad, Yardic, Aya, and Adgar are rescued by Arala when her cavalry charges replacement Legion troops intending the kill the remaining members of the Company.
Aras finds that Fiva has been captured along with K’Rena, Selea, Alahar, Ryhar, and Gorg.
Despite the overwhelming odds in the event they charge the enemy’s closest fortress, Aras and the others agree to rescue the captured members of the Company, and ride forth to rescue them.

Session 8: City of Piar'Das

Party enters Piar’Das. Locals do not care for Jarrad.
Fiva is called by her title “Knight of the Free Winds”, her and Aras are looked upon as heroes.
Party is offered lodging by the lord of the city.
Zos goes and kills a merchant that is providing arms to the Black Legion.
Most of the party drinks.
Fiva and Aras drink heavily, remembering old times.
In the middle of the night, Fiva is ambushed by a Salamander that takes a humanoid form in order to speak with her. It informs her that her party will die if they head north, and that Aras will die tonight. She attacks it and critically harms it with her sword, but it infuses dark magic into her and she is severely wounded.
The salamander escapes as Aras breaks into Fiva’s room to find her badly wounded. He chases after the creature. The party finds Fiva, who is worried that Aras has run off into an ambush.
Aras gives chase to the salamander, and finds out he indeed has been ambushed by the Black Legion.
Alahar and Ryhar run off to aid Aras, Fiva attempts to go but is restrained by Selea due to her injuries fighting the salamander.
Aras finds himself in an overwhelming situation as the Legion begins to swarm him, and the others are unsuccessful in attempting to find him.
Annoyed by Selea’s attempts to keep her calm, Fiva manages to get away from the cleric and enters the battle. She’s desperate to find Aras, as she now sees that the salamander has caused severe damage to Piar’Das.
Aras manages to hold off his attackers long enough to find Fiva coming to his rescue, despite her badly burned hands. Horrified, Aras begins attempting to wrap them up.
Aras and Fiva manage to hunt down the salamander in the middle of the ambush, but it bursts into flame and escapes in front of them.
Aras returns back to the keep to find Fiva in bedrest, and the two hold hands for several hours. After she falls asleep he stays awake the rest of the night to look over the entrance to her chamber.
K’Rena stays awake in her and Aras’ shared room, realizing that he isn’t serious with their relationship upon noticing he hasn’t returned.

Session 7: Tower of Zos

Party heads to Zos’ tower in order to rest.
Zos entertains his guests in the tower.
K’Rena notices trouble in her and Aras’s relationship.
Fiva is nostalgic over how life used to be before the war, and finds a copy of her old favorite story she used to tell Aras. She steals it from the library.
Aras intrudes into Jarrad’s room in order to free Ni’Ella and steal the Sword of Elfbane in order to destroy it.
Jarrad wakes up in the middle of Aras freeing Ni’Ella, and the two nearly begin to fight each other in combat. When the party breaks up the fight, the two settle on a friendly duel to secure the fate of Ni’Ella and the Sword of Elfbane.
Aras barely wins the duel, and manages to free Ni’Ella and receives the Sword of Elfbane.
Aras sees Ni’Ella off, hoping she escapes to a safer place.
Aras has Aya destroy the Sword of Elfbane.
Party continues on in the morning to the city of Piar’Das.

Session 6: Coast of Narnas

Party hunts after Ni’Ella.
Party fights off BL escort of Ni’Ella.
Ni’Ella presses on to the coast, captured by Jarrad via Sword of Elfbane.
Other elves in party become sick after sword is used.
As Jarrad captures Ni’Ella, he intends to use her as a slave – Ryhar and Alahar intend to execute her on the spot.
Ni’Ella is able to confirm that Era’Venas used her unwilling to commit the attacks, though party is unmoved except Aras.
Aras holds off Jarrad, Ryhar, and Alahar from either enslaving or killing Ni’Ella, company almost breaks down in this action.
Kieras ambushes party. Aras is almost killed, but manages to slice of Kiera’s left arm and shove him off the coast. It is presumed Kieras died in the fall.
Party heads to Zos’ old home, a tower in the area. Party captures Ni’Ella, which Aras is displeased with.

Aya’s mother continues to attempt to possess Aya.
Aras is nearly killed, but Aya manifests her mana in order to utterly destroy her mother’s essence.
